PAST and present Sunday league giants are planning a clash to raise money for a premature baby charity.

Current table toppers Duckpond FC, who recently celebrated their third successive promotion with an airborne banner, will be taking on former titans the United Services to raise money for Bliss.

Martin Warnes is playing for the United Services Team and is hoping to raise lots of cash for a great cause.

“This is something we have wanted to do for a while and we thought it would be a good idea to do it for charity,” he said.

“Our manager Matt Carmichael is raising money for Bliss including the cricket match with the Essex players a couple of weeks ago, and a bike ride so we thought it would be a good charity to choose.

“The team disbanded about five years ago but we were the best Sunday team around for a while.

“It has created a buzz in the town and I fancy our chances and think we have enough to win.”

The game kicks off at 1.30pm at Harwich and Parkeston’s Royal Oak Ground on Main Road on Sunday August 31.

Entry is £1.50 with all the money going to charity. The bar will be open throughout the day and there will also be a barbecue.
