HUNDREDS of people turned out for a fun day to help a lifesaving charity and a troubled football club..

The Harwich and Dovercourt Summer Fair raised £987.79 which will be split between Harwich and Parkeston Football Club and the Essex Air Ambulance.

Raffles, tombolas, face painting, traditional games and performances by local talent was seen by a crowd of more than 650 adults at the Royal Oak on Sunday.

Organiser Bev Heard said: “The whole day was absolutely fantastic and a lot of people attended which was great.

“There were local businesses which supported us with £30 to help us with the running costs so we would like to thank Mayflower Taxis, Home Sweet Home, Top Draw Bingo, Pampered Hampers, Flying Building Supplies as well as Asda and Morrisons.

“It is great to help the football club because people did not realise how much they were struggling or how much it costs to run a club.

“Harwich has been screaming out for events like this and the regular carboot sales we have been holding to bring the community back together.”

The final carboot sale of the season is this Sunday with sellers welcome from 11am and buyers from noon. Entry is 50p.
