A WIDOW has pledged double the asking price for historic deeds of Harwich homes in honour of her husband’s love of the town.

Paperwork dating back more than 300 years is being sold off by resident Tony Colbourne (below) to raise money for the town’s Mayflower Project.

Molly Bleakley, of Hewitt Road, Ramsey, saw the story about the charity sale in last week’s Standard and fearing the paperwork could be sold off toabidder in America has offered £500 to buy it.

Mrs Bleakley, is the widow of 1970 mayor Bill, who died in 2007.

She said: “He would have so loved this, so I couldn’t let it go out of Harwich."

Sean Day of the Mayflower Project, said: “The project is really touched by the interest and support from local people. We would prefer it if it stays in the town but we are advertising it online."
