FRINTON Cricket Club captain Mark Jones is backing his title-chasing side to hold their nerve during the final fortnight of the season.

The coastal team have a slender three-point lead at the top of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship, heading into this weekend’s crunch match at Sudbury.

They then host Witham on September 13 – hoping to gain sufficient points to see off nearest rivals Coggeshall, who finish with matches against Haverhill and Mildenhall.

“I’m confident the boys will hold their nerve,” said Jones.

“It’s going down to the wire and anything can happen in such a high-pressure situation.

“But we’ve been in this position before (having won the title last season) and hopefully that will stand us in good stead.

“It’s up to us and it’s in our hands.

“We have to win both our remaining games and we have to target maximum points, because we don’t want to rely on any slip ups from Coggeshall.

“If we can do that, we’ll be worthy champions and we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
