FC CLACTON boss Glenn Eldridge praised his side’s decision-making in the final third during their stunning 4-0 victory at Haverhill Rovers on Saturday.

New signing Terry Rymer netted twice - his first goals in a Seasiders shirt - following earlier strikes from Aaron Condon and Billy Wales.

It was the club’s first Thurlow Nunn League premier division success of the season and set them up nicely for Saturday’s home match against rock bottom Diss (kick-off 3pm).

“We made the right decisions in the final third and that was the difference, compared to other games this season,” said a delighted Eldridge.

“Not many clubs have got a forward line like we now have and every time we went forward, it looked like we would score.

“It could have been six or seven and after the first goal went in, the boys played with such confidence and belief.

“It reminded me of the way we were playing in pre-season, knocking the ball around and scoring lots of goals.

“To keep a clean sheet into the bargain made it extra pleasing.

“Overall, the boys worked really hard and I couldn’t have asked for more.

“My only disappointment was that we didn’t have a midweek game.

“After a win and performance like that, it would have been good to play again on Tuesday.”

Eldridge spoke about the number of players who have missed games through injury or illness in last week’s Gazette.

However, he said that situation is improving and it will be a much stronger squad that faces Diss on Saturday.

The Suffolk side are bottom of the premier division table with six defeats from six games, so far.

In contrast, Eldridge hopes last weekend’s win sparks a run of improved form for his side and he said: “It’s certainly a happy camp.

“With players coming back, we’ve got competition for places and I’ve got lads not in the first team asking if they can get some minutes under their belts for the reserves.

“That shows a really good attitude.”

Clacton have another home game on Tuesday night, at home to Waltham Forest in the second round of the Essex Senior Cup (kick-off 7.45pm).

Meanwhile, the Seasiders are preparing for a mouth-watering FA Vase second qualifying round tie against neighbours Stanway Rovers.

Clacton had a bye in the first qualifying round, whereas Stanway ensured their progress after a 2-1 success against Barking.

The match will take place at The Hawthorns on Saturday, October 4.

Eldridge also confirmed that young pair Kalon Harms and Harvey Cowler are going on loan to Halstead Town.
