THOUSANDS of bikers descended upon north Essex to raise money for Essex Air Ambulance.

The Motorcycle Run, now in its 15th year, is the organisation’s longest-running charity event.

About 5,000 bikers set off on a 60-mile trip from Ford Dunton Technical Centre, in Laindon at 11am on Sunday.

The leather-clad riders arrived at Harwich Quay from 12.30pm to seas of bike enthusiasts.

They were greeted by live entertainment, including performances from a number of Harwich bands as well as other on-stage action.

Visitors also had the chance to win Moto GP merchandise, signed by riders, as well as items bearing world champion Tom Sykes’ signature.

Organiser Hannah Ashby said: “It felt like everyone descended upon Harwich, with 5,000 bikers and a few thousand fans.

“We were treated to so much entertainment.”

One Essex Air Ambulance helicopter was joined by the Essex Police helicopter on Harwich beach and families were able to see how each works and get pictures alongside them.
