FEARS an eyesore building could be a major fire risk have been raised after volunteers discovered a mountain of flammable rubbish inside.

A clean-up operation was held at Parkeston House last week after it was labelled as a dangerous blight on the village by residents furious at its derelict state.

Two skips were filled to the brim with litter dumped over the security fencing and onto the site, but rubbish uncovered inside the building has prompted major safety concerns.

David Smith, parish councillor, said: "The site has become steadily worse with rubbish piling up behind the barriers erected by Tendring Council.

"Myself and fellow parish councillors are worried and concerned about all the rubbish that has been left inside the building.

"This is all flammable materials and if it catches fire or is set fire deliberately the result doesn't bare thinking about."

Volunteers were joined by parish councillors and builders employed by Tendring Council for the clean up day.
