A YOUTH organisation has asked for support as it bids for cash to purchase its building.

The Hub, in Manningtree, opened more than five years ago, and currently leases the property in The Lane.

But now the drop-in centre, supported by the Diocese of Chelmsford, wants to buy the building from the owner for £90,000.

Malcolm Westwood, of The Hub, speaking at a meeting of Manningtree Town Council on Thursday said: “Mistley Maltings Trust invited grants and have offered us £30,000 towards it.

“This is along with offers of donations and assurances and without going to ask we have got £25,000.

“We have applied to Gannett for £10,000.”

The Hub has also applied to Essex County Council’s Community Initiative Fund which can provide a grant up to £20,000.

Manningtree Town Council has pledged to support the move by the centre.
