AN unusual new illustrated book sharing memories of Harwich has been published, with each sale raising money for charity and historical sites in the town.

Artist John Sallows has gathered stories of times gone by in a book called Harwich, Dovercourt, Parkeston and Ramsey – Your Memories, in an effort to cast a unique and light-hearted look at the town and its past.

He then added his own illustrations and had a friend draw cartoons to bring them to life.

“It’s certainly different,” said John.

“I have tried to offer a sense of what gives us our character and to do it in a light-hearted way."

Cash from the sales of the books, which cost £8.99, will be given to places like St Helena Hospice if they are sold from the charity’s Dovercourt shop, and the Harwich Society.

To launch the new book John, of Fronks Avenue, Dovercourt, will be signing copies at Hand Made Gallery, in the town’s High Street, tomorrow from 10am to noon. A total of £4 from each sale on the day will go to the Harwich Society.
