A DERELICT warehouse is set to be transformed into a multi-million-pound quayside development after a legal battle.

Maltings firm Edme and Gladedale Estates were given the go-ahead to replace the old Thorn Quay warehouse in Mistley’s conservation area with a flagship development of 45 flats, offices, car parking, storage and communal gardens.

But TW Logistics, which owns the neighbouring quayside, hit out at the plans and called for a judicial review, claiming Tendring Council had failed to take into account the effect it would have on Mistley Port or the company’s own interest in taking on the former warehouse to conserve it as a heritage asset.

High Court Judge Sir Andrew Collins refused the application, turning it down on all eight grounds raised, and ordered TW Logistics to pay £6,600 in costs.

TW Logistics can still seek an oral hearing and appeal against the decision.

The firm declined to comment.
