VOLUNTEERS who have dedicated themselves to improving the look of Harwich train station have been given a top award.
Sue Robinson and Georgeta Busuoic have been named best newcomers at Abellio Greater Anglia’s Station Adopter Award ceremony, held in Norwich.
The adopt a station scheme asks for people to play an active role in keeping the sites looking pristine, and the pair have transformed Harwich Town train station by bedding in various plants to create a garden on what used to be an overgrown and unloved waste ground.
Sue accepted the award during a celebration at the Dragon Hall.
She said: “We are delighted to accept this award and we are really pleased our hard work is giving so much pleasure to others.”
Georgeta added: “We want to make Harwich station a fitting gateway for the town to welcome visitors and to connect the railway with the community.
“We also owe thanks to the Harwich Mayflower project, who helped with the removal of tonnes of rubble, which was crucial to enable us to create the garden.”
