A WAR memorial is set for a floral facelift.

In total 60 new Mayflower roses will be planted at the Minesweeper’s Memorial in Marine Parade, Dovercourt.

The old plants were removed by Tendring Council.

Planting will take place in the next few weeks following the agreement of Harwich Town Council.

The roses have been chosen to link in with the replica of the Mayflower ship which is being built in the town by the Mayflower Project.

Nick Turner, cabinet member for environment said: “The Mayflower is so important to Harwich with its connections and it is a nice touch to plant that type of rose at the memorial.

“I am sure it will be appreciated by the residents and the flowers will be enjoyed for years to come.”
