PRIMARY schools are celebrating top-notch performances in the latest batch of exam results.

Key Stage 2 league tables were unveiled by the Department for Education this week, detailing how schools across the country fared after the summer Sats.

In the national curriculum tests, pupils aged ten and 11 are expected to achieve Level 4 in reading, writing and maths.

At Highfields Primary School in Lawford, an impressive 97 per cent of pupils met the standard with 35 per cent of students getting to above average Level 5 grade.

Headteacher Hilary Cook was delighted with the results. She said: “We have high aspirations and we are delighted these have been reflected in our results. Our aim is to always promote the development of the whole child and this includes achievement in sports and the arts."

The top performing school in Harwich and Dovercourt was All Saints Primary in Main Road, with 92 per cent of pupils at Level 4.

Headteacher Richard Hopkins believes reaching the standard is vital for students.

“It is extremely important because data shows if a child gets Level 4 across the board then they on track to get five A* to C GCSE grades including English and Maths,” he said.
