THE parent of a teacher killed by a drink-driver is backing a campaign to get the public to report offendersthem.

Crimestoppers wants everybody to take responsibility for drink-drivers and if you can’t stop them, report them.

The idea is everyone has a responsibility and David Lee agrees.

His daughter Sarah was killed five years ago by a man who, he was subsequently told, regularly drove after drinking.

He said: “The burden is not on one individual.

“We all need to take responsibility for this type of behaviour.

“We fundamentally need to change the way we think.

“It is not a question of not being caught we need to ensure we prevent it from happening and we are all responsible for that.

“If you see someone who is drinking and driving or know someone and you ignore it you are also responsible."

Teacher Sarah Lee, of Bergholt Road, Colchester, died when a white Audi crossed the road and crashed into her blue Ford Focus in Manningtree Road, Stutton, near Brantham.

The Audi driver, Matthew Anderson, 24, from Suffolk, was also killed. He was two-and-a-half times over the legal drink-drive limit and was driving around a corner at between 60 and 80mph when he crashed into her on December 5, 2009.

If you have any information on those who regularly drink drive you can contact the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via the online secure form at crimestoppers-uk.org If you see someone attempting to operate a vehicle whilst intoxicated please call 999 as this may require urgent police action.
