REIGNING champions Clacton celebrated another Eastern League success after beating Colchester 12-7.

With Robert Eastman and Neil Coles unavailable, they were pleased to welcome back David Green.

The experienced player returned to their squad after a long absence. Attacking the deep end in the first quarter, Clacton should have capitalised on their advantage but instead were rusty in front of goal.

They only converted half the clear-cut chances they created, as the first quarter ended all-square at 3-3.

The second period saw a better performance, with two goals from Adrian Westlake, one from Ian Westlake and a fine goal from the wing from the brothers’ dad, Nick.

With a half-time advantage of 8-5, Clacton were well in control and extended their lead in the final two quarters to end the match as worthy 12-7 victors.

Full credit should go to Colchester, who worked hard but were no match for the champions.

Clacton’s next matches are against Basildon and Ipswich.

They will need to show better form in front of goal if they are to extend their lead at the top of the table.
