RESIDENTS in Harwich are still waiting for a new flood siren, three years after it was taken away.
The town’s flood siren was removed by Essex County Council in 2011 and replaced with a text and e-mail alert system to cut costs.
Councillors on Harwich Town Council have been working to have a new siren installed.
In January last year they hoped it would only be another six months before it was installed.
Resident Betty Holbrook raised the issue at a Harwich Town Council meeting.
She said: “We are getting all this rough weather and this is the only way the whole of Harwich and Bathside will know there is a flood.”
Councillor Robert Day said the process had been “frustrated” by the system and number of other authorities involved.
“We have a meeting within the next seven days to try and move it on,” he said.
