A FIVE-bedroom council house is to be sold off due to mounting repair costs and a lack of use.

The timber-framed Georgian-fronted house in West Street, Harwich, is Grade II-listed and in the town’s conservation area.

But, due to its size, there is no demand for the property by current council tenants and a report into its sale said the bedroom tax meant it was not possible for a smaller family to rent.

Once sold, the cash will be used to reinvest into council housing in the same area.
