SAM Hume was a popular winner of the Clacton and District Table Tennis League’s handicap singles tournament.

The 14-year-old rising star overcame heavy handicaps to win the tournament, at St James’ Hall.

After seeing off Tricia Salter, Debra Found and John Marshall, he then held his nerve to win the final against Graham Parkes.

He won an enthralling and absorbing match, eventually prevailing 11-8, 3-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7.
