CAMPAIGNERS are pushing for speed cameras at accident blackspots on the A120 to be made permanent despite road bosses wanting to take them down when new safety measures are completed.
The Highways Agency has slashed the speed limit of the road to 50mph as a short-term safety solution between Hare Green, Pellens Corner and Horsley Cross.
And plans for a roundabout at the Hare Green junction are currently being drawn up.
In November the Standard revealed how the speed cameras could be made permanent in a bid to reduce accidents.
At a meeting of the Tendring Locality Board the Highways Agency confirmed the cameras would be retained if it was felt necessary.
But it could take up to three years of collision data to prove the effectiveness of the reduced speed limit.
