A GRANDMOTHER has marked her centenary year with a party where she saw her son for the first time in 24 years.
Jessie Asquith, who lives in Colne Housing’s Ironside Walk, in Manningtree, had a party on Friday at the Oasis Cafe at nearby Foundry Court.
As well as receiving a card from the Queen, flowers from Colne Housing and a birthday cake, she saw her son Stuart, who moved to South Africa when he was 26.
Other than a trip to the country during a series of holidays after her husband Arnold died when she was 57, Jessie hasn’t seen her son in 24 years.
She said: “I don’t feel 100 years old at all, it is as if it is happening to someone else.
“I have achieved everything I want to achieve during my lifetime and I hope my health will stay with me."
