A COUNCILLOR has said plans to transform a putting green will send a “nice message” to a fellow council which criticised it for not paying for certain services.

Earlier this month, Lawford Parish Council called for Harwich to pay for the streetlights to be turned back on amid claims it was “unjust” if other villages were forced to contribute if they didn’t want them turned back on.

A number of the smaller parish councils already pay for extra services such as streetlights in addition to their council tax.

But Harwich town councillor Ivan Henderson said: “This is really good news. All credit to the members who have worked so hard on this. I think it should send a nice message to our friends at Lawford Parish Council.

“They should come to a meeting and see what we do. They are making comments without knowing what they are talking about.”
