THE family of Captain Fryatt have backed a campaign to get him a posthumous honour for his bravery.
His great-granddaughter, Louise Gill, and her siblings have signed a petition being run by Harwich Town Council and the Harwich and Manningtree Standard.
Captain Charles Fryatt was executed on July 27, 1916, after being found guilty of attempting to ram a German U-boat.
The campaign is calling for him to be recognised by the British Government for his courage and bravery.
Louise, 48, who lives in Tiptree, said: “We were surprised to hear about the campaign, but we were honoured from the family’s point of view. “
To sign the petition, visit the Harwich Guildhall, in Church Street, or town centre shops, including Oxley’s, Superdrug, Card Corner and Cards 4U, in Dovercourt High Street.
