CALLS have been made for action to be taken on derelict and untidy sites littering the entrance to Harwich.

It is feared the unkempt sites on the approach to the town could be putting off tourists.

Earlier this month, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help clean up the town ahead of the first cruise ship visit of the season.

But councillor Dave McLeod said run-down barns on the A120 and buildings in the town needed to be spruced up as Harwich tried to capitalise on tourism.

“Agricultural buildings are being left to fall into such disrepair,” he said.

“It is detrimental to our tourism bid.”
