A VITAL advice service could be forced to leave Harwich if money is not found to carry out urgent repairs to its building, it is feared.

Citizens Advice Bureau needs about £2,300 to repair the roof of its base in the car park of Morrisons, in Dovercourt.

At Harwich Town Council’s annual parish meeting on Tuesday, residents hit out amid concerns the charity had been snubbed for funding for works to the demountable building.

Dave Ruston, of Highfield Avenue, Dovercourt, said: “It has been brought to my attention that Citizens Advice Bureau is in need of urgent repairs to its premises.

“If these repairs are not done, there is a possibility the CAB could pull out of Harwich.”

Councillors confirmed they had refused a request for a grant.

Robert Day said: “There was an application that did not fit within our rules and it was refused because of that. Any further application would be judged on its merits and if it fits within the rules, then we would consider it.”

Alex Stanmore, CAB chairman, said it was exploring every avenue, including asking for help from the Harwich and Dovercourt Rotary Club.

Anyone wanting to help can call Sharon Tyler on 01255 377080.
