CAMPAIGNERS battling to have Mistley Quay registered as a village green are set to host a series of events to help fund a legal battle for their cause.

Mistley Quay was awarded the status by Essex County Council last year.

But the decision will now be reviewed by the High Court after TWL Logistics challenged the outcome.

Essex County Council will have to defend its decision at a hearing, which could last between five and ten days, later this year.

Campaign group Free The Quay have been fighting against a 6ft high wire mesh fence put up for safety reasons by TWL in 2008.

It will host two events next month so it can support the council in the challenge.

Chairman, Simon Bullimore said: “It’s a great disappointment to us that TWL feel unable to accept the decision of Essex County Council.

“It is now nearly six years since we first offered to pay for an acceptable barrier at the quayside suitable to the Mistley conservation area.”

The first event will be the Great Mistley Garage Sale, which will take place at the Swan Basin on May3from 10am to 4pm.

It will be followed by a 70s disco boogie night on May 16 at Mistley Church Hall from 8pm.
