PRIME Minister David Cameron has pledged a Conservative government would look into improvements needed on the A120 towards Harwich.

The Tory leader announced funding for a feasibility study for the stretch of the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey during a visit to Colchester and Clacton.

It would add to a £5million cashpot already set aside by Essex County Council.

But as part of the commitment, Mr Cameron has also said Highways England will be asked to include "analysis of further improvements needed on the eastern stretch of the road from Marks Tey to Harwich".

During his visit to Colchester, he said: “This area needs infrastructure investment.

“The East of England is an engine, but it needs to have good infrastructure and good links.”

The Prime Minister also said if people can travel to the East of England quicker, the rise in business being carried out in the region would equal an “extra £2,000 for every man, woman and child” by 2030.

  • The candidates standing in the General Election for the Harwich and North Essex Constituency are Bernard Jenkin (Conservative), Mark Hughes (Ukip), Edward Carlsson Browne (Labour), Chris Flossman (Green), Dominic Graham (Liberal Democrats).
