CLACTON Cricket Club manager Gary Kirk believes his high-flying side can make a statement on Saturday.

The Seasiders are riding high after winning their first three Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship matches.

The most recent was last week’s 109-run success at Little Bardfield Village.

However, they are likely to face a stiffer challenge when they head to Ipswich and East Suffolk, on Saturday.

Clacton are third in division three and their hosts fourth.

“There’s still room for improvement but we’re really happy with the way things are going at the moment,” said Kirk.

“However, we know it’s a big, tough game this weekend.

“If we could win, it would make a real statement and stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

“It’ll be good to play another team from the top of the table, as a guage to see where we’re at.”

Kirk sung the praises of batting pair Scott Facey (91) and Bradley Turner (62), who gave their side a solid platform against Bardfield.

Five different bowlers then took two wickets each, including debutant Adam Wallinger.

The 23-year-old all-rounder has just moved to the area, having previously played cricket in Northamptonshire.

There was also a first appearance of the season for Keiron Parker – the son of Clacton Hockey Club stalwart Carl.

“Adam is going to be a useful addition,” said Kirk.

“And Keiron is one of a number of talented youngsters showing an eagerness to learn and progress.”
