HARWICH is hosting its first events to raise awareness about the emotional wellbeing of young people in the town.

The Harwich Community Consortium – a group made up of Teen Talk, the Harwich Education Partnership and Home Start Harwich – has identified wellbeing as a priority and organised the sessions.

Each event aims to raise awareness of challenges that young people face and provide parents with practical advice and information to help support their children and recognise when they might need extra help.

The events are being run in conjunction with the Britten Partnership, which works with groups wanting to connect with young people and the wider community.

The first event, on June 4 between 7pm and 9pm, at the Waterfront, in Lower Marine Parade, Dovercourt, is for parents with children at primary school, with the event repeated a week later for parents with children at secondary school and sixth-form.

There will be a range of speakers from a number of support organisations with presentations on topics including anxiety, stress associated with school transition, exam worry and more.

Parents will also have the opportunity to speak to representatives from groups that work directly with young people.

The consortium also hopes to organise further events in the future.
