AN historic passenger ferry that operated between Harwich and Felixstowe has been put up for sale.
The MS Brightlingsea was built at Rowhedge Ironworks in 1925 and was active on the River Orwell between 1924 and 1982.
The vessel was restored to be used as an excursion boat in 2009 and is described as being structurally sound, but in poor health cosmetically.
The engine also needs to be completely removed and replaced.
She is currently berthed at the River Deben and the ship has already attracted bids of more than £1,000 on online auction site eBay.
Owner Kimberley Moravec said she and her family could no longer justify keeping the boat.
She said: “With a heavy heart, my husband and I have decided to sell the MS Brightlingsea.
“She is mentioned often in local history, and even briefly appeared in one of Arthur Ransome’s books.
“Although we restored her in 2009 and ran her as an excursion boat for a few years, it proved to be too much for a young family, although we greatly appreciate those who supported us.”
To bid, go to ebay.co.uk/itm/Ex- Passenger-Ferry-/221777187197. The auction ends on Tuesday.
