TOWN leaders have called for a temporary car park in Manningtree town centre to be closed on Sundays.
Market Place, off Brook Street, was turned into a car park in 2013.
The scheme was set to be reviewed once the long awaited Tesco store was built in Station Road.
But after the supermarket giant pulled out of building there earlier this year, the future of the car park is unknown.
In 2013, some councillors on Manningtree Town Council were opposed to the car park, fearing it would become permanent.
At a meeting last Thursday, councillors agreed to write to Tendring Council to ask for the car park to be closed on Sundays.
New councillor Jason Charlesworth said: “There is no commercial reason for having it open on a Sunday.”
