LORRIES will be funneled through rural villages while long-awaited work takes place to resurface the A120.

The Highways Agency has announced plans to close the road between Ramsey and Horsley Cross overnight from 8pm to 6am between August 17 and 27.

It comes after similar works were scrapped in November because lorries were being diverted through the B1035 and B1352, passing through Ramsey, Wrabness, Bradfield and Mistley.

The seven-tonne limit has once again been suspended and Essex county councillor for Tendring Rural East Andrew Erksine is furious traffic will be sent through the villages while the road is closed.

He said: “I’m really incensed about it.

“The roads are just not big enough and as soon as drivers with caravans arrive, it is going to be absolutely in chaos.

"I feel for the residents because it is not fair on them.”

A spokesman for the Highways Agency said: “While we appreciate the inconvenience and concerns from local residents, the diversion is the most appropriate and has been agreed with Essex County Council.

“However, we’ll monitor the performance of the diversion route during the work to make sure it remains safe.”
