FC CLACTON boss David Coyle says he and his players are working hard to develop a more offensive, entertaining brand of football.

The Seasiders have had three training sessions so far and are trying to alter their style from last season.

With the team struggling in the lower reaches of the Thurlow Nunn League premier division table, Coyle admits results, rather than performances, were the key when he returned to the club last September.

However, now, with the benefit of a pre-season to work on things, he hopes his side can win more games in more style.

“Pre-season is the most important time of the year, from a coaching perspective,” said the Clacton boss.

“I came back several weeks into last season and, from then on, my role was more about managing than coaching.

“It was about getting the lads to stick together, organising them, limiting risks to keep ourselves in games and then hoping someone would pull a rabbit out of the hat.

“Results were everything, because of our position in the table, and trying to change the team’s style would only have led to confusion and more mistakes.

“Now, with more time and training sessions, we’ve got an opportunity to change a few things and I’d certainly like us to play a more entertaining style of football.

“I want the players to enjoy it, because there’s not pleasure in lumping the ball forward.

“It won’t always go to plan but hopefully when we win, we’ll win with a bit of style.

“The players have certainly been receptive so far.

“They’ve been working hard and they’ll have to keep working hard, because these things don’t just happen in one or two sessions.

“It takes a lot of effort and trust to nail it.”
