DOZENS of youngsters tackled summer holiday boredom with a jam-packed day of sports.

The children played football, dodgeball and even learned a few moves of karate at Brantham Leisure Centre during the sessions which are run by Anglia Sports Management.

A different set of activities are put on each day of the six-week school break with youngsters also given the chance to do arts and crafts projects and even have a mass waterfight with their coaches on Friday afternoons.

The group has been putting on the holiday programme for the last five years and spokesman Tony Hall said he was delighted that popularity was growing.

“We do all sorts of things to keep them out of mischief and usually take in between 25 and 40 kids every day,” he said.

“The age range is between five and 13 and people come from Colchester, Ipswich, Manningtree, Mistley, Lawford, Harwich, East Bergholt and of course Brantham.

“For the first time this summer we also have had people come from as far as Hadleigh which is great.

“As well as the summer holiday club we also do a lot of work in schools and it is getting bigger and growing out a lot more.”
