AN OVERNIGHT parcel company in Wix has been denied a planning certificate to give it a lawful right to operate on a former farm.

Tendring Express Services, in Oakley Road, Wix applied to Tendring Council for the licence saying it had been running on the site for more than ten years.

The company, which has 17 delivery vans and uses two barns as well as four demountable buildings for office and staff faciliies, says it began at the site in 2004.

It employes 32 people.

But Tendring Council has refused the licence claiming there is not enough evidence to show the company has been using the site for more than ten years.

Depot principal Nigel Hargreaves said the company has employeed a specialist planning team to reapply, with more information to support the claim.

"I thought it was just a formality and didn't give them enough information," he said.

"But I'm not worried as we are reapplying."

Tendring Express Services has six months to appeal or reapply before enforcement action can be taken.
