A JAZZ legend comes to the Electric Palace on Thursday, together with half a dozen of the genre’s most talented artists.

Award-winning Digby Fairweather and his Half Dozen continue their sell-out tour with an evening of charged jazz.

Digby has been at the heart of the British jazz scene since 1970, and will bring his wealth of talent and experience to the historic cinema in Harwich.

The group have won the annual British Jazz Award an impressive nine times, and Digby has also teamed up with legends such as George Melly and Paul Jones.

Chris Strachan, Electric Palace director, said: “The group have had a fantastic year celebrating their 20th anniversary and are really looking forward to returning to the Electric Palace.

“Digby Fairweather’s Half Dozen are celebrating their 20th year with a major national tour and two new albums.

“The group’s aim is simple – to play great music, and to entertain their audience.”

Joining Digby, who will be playing trumpet, is Julian Mark Stringle, a clarinet wizard voted Best Clarinettist at the British Jazz Awards 2006, and Craig Milverton, a sought-after solo pianist who has performed with such star vocalists as Stacey Kent and Tina May.

On guitar is Dominic Ashworth, who has played alongside Digby with GeorgeMelly and Paul Jones, and was awarded the Jazz Guitarist of the Year honour at the Birmingham Jazz Awards in 2006.

Chris Gower will performon lead trombone, Al Swainger will be providing bass and Nick Millward, who was placed in the top five drummers in Britain in a recent poll, will play percussion.
