CONTROVERSIAL plans for a huge 360-home development will not be opposed by a parish council.

The Lawford Green development earmarked for land off Bromley Road has been put forward by Rose Builders and could see a centre for emergency services, new council building and a new car park for Lawford Primary School built, along with the homes.

Lawford Parish Council has now stated it will not oppose the plan because the land has been identified for development in Tendring Council’s emerging local plan and is an outline application.

The council will make further comments if and when a more detailed plan is submitted.

Despite deciding to remain neutral, the council has raised several concerns regarding the increased housing, residents and car ownership resulting from the application including the railway bridge at Manningtree station.

A statement from the parish council said: “This is a bottleneck at peak times and the roundabout, bridge and station approach must be assessed as one complete area for improvement."

The council also wants assessments to be made about the number of places available at doctors surgeries and school and whether current systems for electricity and sewage will be able to cope with the extra demand.

Plans to stop smaller roads like Dead Lane becoming rat runs, an assessment on how to stop standing water on nearby roads and the junction of Wignall Street and Bromley Road have also been highlighted as concerns.

Tendring Council has the final say on the plans.
