BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent manager James Webster wants his side to become more “street-wise”.

The Tendring side bowed out of the FA Cup in midweek after losing their preliminary-round replay at home to Witham Town.

They conceded a last-gasp winner and afterwards Webster questioned his players’ decision-making.

He says they must buck their ideas up in today’s Ryman League north division match at home to Harlow Town.

“We keep making things difficult for ourselves,” said Webster.

“We’re showing character to get back into games, after going behind, but I don’t understand our decision-making at times.

“We’re very naive, as we were for Witham’s winner.

“There was a minute to go and we tried playing out of defence, got caught on the ball and they’ve gone on to nick it.

“It was so disappointing.

“We worked hard and I couldn’t fault the boys’ work-rate.

“We battled, but our decision-making let us down.

“We’re a young team and things like that are going to happen, but it seems to be happening a bit too much at the moment and it’s costing us goals.

“We’re being punished every time and that will happen at this level of football.

“We’ve got to grow up as a team and become a bit more smart and street-wise.

“Harlow are another team that will punish us, so we have to manage games better and be a bit more cute.”
