MALDON and Tiptree boss David Wright wants his players to “put right some of the wrongs” from their FA Cup defeat at Hullbridge Sports when they host Romford on Saturday.

The Jammers exited the cup at the preliminary round stage, after going down 2-0.

Now they switch their attention back to the Ryman League north division, with a home game against Romford being followed by Tuesday’s trip to Cheshunt.

And Wright is hoping for a positive reaction from his players this weekend.

“Without playing to the best of our ability, we dominated the game on Saturday,” he told the Standard.

“But it was a story of the two boxes.

“At one end we missed numerous chances, while at the other we made mistakes and were punished.

“In the first half, especially, I thought we did well and could have been a couple of goals up.

“The second half wasn’t quite as good, but we still created chances.

“It was very disappointing, although I’m not taking anything away from Hullbridge.

“It’s part of our young players’ education, though.

“We have to be patient with them and hopefully they’ll benefit from the experience in the long-term.”
