A CHARITY rugby match will raise funds in memory of a veteran player tomorrow.

A match between Harwich and Dovercourt Rugby Club and charity team Saladins Barbarians will raise money for the British Heart Foundation in memory of Peter Dalby, who died suddenly aged 65 in July.

Club secretary Andy Bray said: “Peter had been a part of the club for a long time.

“He was a captain here and a really good guy, we are happy to raise money for his family’s chosen charity.”

Funds will also be raised to assist ex-rugby player Adrian Clarke, who suffered a brain stem stroke and needs help adapting his home to suit his disability.

The match will kick off at 3pm at the club ground, in Wick Lane, Dovercourt, with a range of activities to enjoy besides the rugby.

There will be a raffle, tombola, cake stall, auction and a disco in the evening, with a bouncy castle and face painting for the youngsters.

The game will be played in four quarters, the first two with full contact and the last two touch only to enable family and friends to participate.

The sides will be competing for the Andrew Grimes Charity Shield, won last year by Harwich in a meeting with the Halstead Templars.
