FURIOUS railway campaigners say Tendring trains have been ignored and will be the “sacrificial lamb” as services are improved elsewhere.

Rail user group Ontrack has been pleading for improved services and infrastructure running from Clacton, Frinton, Walton and Harwich.

The Government is getting set to choose a company to run East Anglia’s rail services for nine years from October 2016.

The new franchise holder will be ordered to add a huge number of train journeys, including an ambitious 90-minute service running between Norwich and London.

But Ontrack leaders are fuming after Tendring was left of the list of priority improvements for railways.

Chairman John Smock said: “We need an improved rail service here to reduce unemployment and boost the local economy, especially in bringing tourism and day trippers in."

Rail Minister Claire Perry said: “We have set out what we want to see bidders deliver as a minimum, but we are looking for bids that exceed our expectations wherever possible."
