A NEW 54-seat lecture theatre has been built at a school as part of a major project of improvements.

Over the summer, a large part of a building at Harwich and Dovercourt High School was refurbished to create a new area for the English and Media Faculty.

It will house the school’s library, as well as a new 54- seat lecture theatre, and will be the focal point for pupils’ use of technology and media through green screen facilities and tablets.

On Friday, Harwich and North Essex MP Bernard Jenkin officially opened the new learning centre.

Headteacher Rob Garrett said: “We are delighted that Bernard Jenkin agreed to open our new active learning resource centre “It has been very rewarding to see the reaction of our students to the latest developments.

“Students and staff are immensely proud of their school and community.

“It is part of our role to ensure they have the best possible learning environment available.”

The development is part of £550,000-worth of improvements at the school, which have so far included the creation of a new post-16 common room.
