A DOG walker has died in hospital after a collision with a car in Dovercourt.

The man, aged in his 60s, was walking his dog along Low Road yesterday when his pet bolted across the road into the path of a car, dragging the owner with him.

He sustained a head injury in the collision with the car.

It happened between 7pm and 8pm yesterday.

The dog lead caused damage to the car so the driver stopped to get the dog walker’s details before leaving the scene.

The dog owner went home but felt increasingly unwell. He was later taken to hospital where he died.

Det Sgt Dave Jones of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “A man has sadly died following this incident.

"I’m keen to speak to anyone who saw the dog walker, before or after the incident. He was walking his dog which is similar to a Pug. The dog is safe and unharmed.”

Police also appealed for the driver of the car to come forward to help with the investigation - a motorist is now said to have been in touch.

Anyone with information should call 101.
