IMPROVEMENTS to the A120 have not been included in a £2 billion investment programme announced this week.

The move has been critised with the poor condition of the road, which stretches from Harwich to Braintree, blamed for causing "significant" loss of money to businesses in the area.

Highways England met to set out how more than £2 billion of Government investment will be spent to improve the capacity and condition of roads across the East of England between now and 2021.

Included in the projects is widening the A12 to three lanes between Chelmsford and Marks Tey and on the Colchester bypass as well as building new cycle paths along parts of the A12 and the A120.

Iain Wicks, Essex development manager for the Federation of Small Businesses, said: "Improvement to the A12 is extremely important, it is a critical transport link.

"But it is disappointing the A120 is not included in this."
