MANNINGTREE High School has scooped the top results in Tendring in this year's GCSE league tables.

The school, in Colchester Road, is ranked 36th in Essex, the best in the district.

Results showed 64per cent of its 151 students gained an A* to C grade in key stage four exams.

Tendring Technology College was ranked 53rd in Essex with 57per cent of the 315 pupils achieving an A* to C grade.

East Bergholt High School was 23rd in the Suffolk league table results out of more than 60 schools in the county - 57per cent of the 184 students gained an A* to C. It was a drop from 14th place last year.

Harwich and Dovercourt High School's headteacher has spoken of his disappointment after slipping from 53rd last year to 74th in Essex for GCSE and equivalent results.

Of the 183 students, 42per cent achieved an A* to C grade.

The results mean the school is fifth out of Tendring's seven schools.

Rob Garrett, headteacher, said: "Our students and staff are working amazingly hard throughout the whole of their time at Harwich and Dovercourt High School.

"We were therefore disappointed that this was not reflected in the grades they deserved.

"There is so much turbulence within the examination and assessment frameworks nationally that it is hard for staff and students to know what constitutes success from one year to another."

But the school faired much better in key stage five results - it's 19th position in the league table put it at the top of the results for Tendring.

Last year the school's sixth form topped the tables for vocational achievement in Tendring.
