HOLLYWOOD heart-throb Clive Owen will introduce his latest film in person when he visits a historic cinema.

The movie star and patron of the Electric Palace cinema, in King’s Quay Street, Harwich, has ensured that the venue gets the first showing of his new film The Confirmation in the UK.

He will also be on hand to introduce the film and will take part in a special question and answer session for the audience.

The Confirmation stars Mr Owen as Walt, an alcoholic, down-on-his-luck carpenter and father to Anthony.

Eight-year-old Anthony is uneasy about spending the weekend with his father and their first day together is filled with misfortune.

Walt’s truck breaks down, his landlord locks him out of the house and his toolbox is stolen ahead of an important job.

As the pair set about fixing their problems, over time they begin to discover a true connection to each other, causing Walt to become a better father to Anthony.

Chris Strachan, who is a trustee of the Electric Palace, said: “Clive’s done it quite a few times before.

“He agrees with the makers of the film to let us have a preview screening a couple of months before it comes out in other places.

“It’s always very exciting for us and for local moviegoers.

“It’s always a pleasure to have him here and good news for Harwich.”

Clive Owen, who owns a home in Wrabness, has twice backed campaigns to raise funds to save and improve the Electric Palace.

In 2006, a campaign to fund urgent repairs costing £85,000 was supported by the star.

Mr Owen again backed a campaign to fund the cinema switching on a new digital facility in 2010.

The fundraising enabled the cinema to show films to a higher standard, with crisper picture and sharper sound.

Tickets for his latest film event, to be held on Sunday, June 26, cost £10, with a cash bar opening from 7pm on the day.
