Here's a summary of some of the cases heard at Colchester Magistrates' Court this week.

  • A MAN has been given an electronic tag and ordered to pay £370 after damaging a car window, assaulting two police officers and damaging a police body camera.

Lee Martin, 33, damaged the car window in Colchester on June 6.

On the same day, Martin, of Maple Way, Colchester, assaulted officers Nathan Bright and Yari Forster, and damaged the body camera.

Magistrates sentenced Martin to a three-month community order not to leave his home address between 7pm and 7am daily.

He was also ordered to pay £100 compensation for the damaged window, £100 in compensation for the assaults, £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12.

  • A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a man who is accused of crashing a Ford Ka while disqualified and over the legal alcohol limit.

David Rump, of Wardour Street, London, failed to attend a hearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12 to face three charges, including driving without insurance, driving without a licence and driving while over the legal alcohol limit.

Rump, 36, is accused of crashing the Ka on the B1027 in Wivenhoe on January 16.

  • A WOMAN has been ordered to pay £225 for dropping a cigarette butt in Colchester town centre.

Samantha Preston, of Gantry Close, Colchester, was caught dropping the cigarette end in Head Street, Colchester, on March 24.

Her guilt was proved in her absence after she failed to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12.

Magistrates ordered her to pay a £55 fine, a £20 victim surcharge and £150 costs by July 26.

  • A 26-YEAR-OLD woman will stand trial at magistrates’ court after denying two assaults on men.

Debbie Rollings, of Penrice Close, Colchester, denies assaulting Steven Fenton and Peter Taylor by beating on June 7.

After appearing at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12, Rollings was remanded on bail until the trial on September 5.

  • A MAN in his 80s will stand trial at crown court after denying he displayed a racially abusive message to another man.

Stanley Snellgrove, 86, will stand trial at Ipswich Crown Court after he denied displaying racially offensive writing in front of Javier Rivera and using threatening words or behaviour towards him, between Febraury 1 and March 26.

Snellgrove, of Harvey Road, Colchester, appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12 and was released on unconditional bail until the trial on August 9.

  • A WARRANT has been issued for the arrest of a man charged with assaulting a woman and being drunk and disorderly in Head Street.

Peter Mann, 45, is charged with assaulting a female and being drunk and disorderly on June 11.

Mann, of George Street, Chelmsford, failed to appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on July 12.
