A FINAL charity fun day in memory of a mother and daughter from Dovercourt has raised more than £1,000.

The annual event in memory of Natasha and Joanne Coombs, of Fronks Road, took place at Little Oakley Memorial Field on Saturday.

Natasha was 17 when she died on the railway line, in Manningtree, in August 2007.

Her mother Joanne, 41, died five weeks later close to the spot where her daughter died.

Their family has run the charity fundraiser for the past nine years and has raised a total of more than £20,000.

This year is the final time the memorial event will take place.

It included a five-a-side football competition and barbecue.

Joanne’s brother Martin said: “The five-a-side football tournament was won by Printer Milan, a team put together from Sato UK.

“There were many raffle prizes donated by friends and local businesses and we again raised well over £1,000 for Cancer Research, and there is more money still coming in.

“The very first memorial that we held for the girls was staged in snowy conditions and the final one on Saturday was in brilliant sunshine.

“This was a perfect ending to many successful years of raising money in memory of two very special people.

“The family would like to reiterate their thanks to everyone who has supported us over the last nine years.”
