THE HEAD of Bradfield Primary has been praised for making changes that have given the school a ‘good’ rating.

This comes two years after school inspectors said the school on Heath Road “requires improvement.”

But last month, Ofsted inspectors gave across the board ‘good’ ratings for its leadership and management, teaching, learning and assessment, plus its early years provision and outcomes for pupils.

“Due to the headteacher’s skilful leadership, teaching and outcomes are better than they were at the last inspection and are now good,” said their report.

“Governance is a strength of the school. The governing body provides clear strategic direction and highly effective challenge to the headteacher and her staff. This ensures the quality of education continues to improve,” it continued.

“School leaders make sure that pupils are very well cared for” and “the subject leadership of English and mathematics is very effective.”

“Pupils behave very well” and “teachers plan learning well.”

“Children develop good learning habits and progress well from their individual starting points,” Ofsted also added.

But inspectors said Bradfield Primary was not ‘outstanding’ as “leaders do not apply the same rigour” in teaching history and geography as they do in English and mathematics. There is also “variability in teachers’ expectations of how well pupils should present their work in their books.”

Bradfield Primary is a community school that teaches 92 boys and girls aged 3-11.

Headteacher Maria Luck-Davies said to have made the improvements over the past two years was “a fantastic achievement and a real reflection on the time and support of everyone connected with the school.”

“The whole school community have shown a positive and large commitment to make Bradfield Primary the best it can be. It’s what the whole community deserves for their very hard work. We are a good and improving school now,” Mrs Luck-Davies said.
