THE wait is almost over - A Level results are out tomorrow and thousands of anxious students will finally find out if they're off to uni this autumn.

While many will get the grades they hoped for, lots will be left disappointed. But it is vital to remember there are still options.

Here's all you need to know about results day, and what to do if you don't get the marks you wanted.

What do I do on results day?

Results day can be stressful, so keep calm and go prepared. Have your UCAS Track sign in details with you.

The best thing to do on the day is get to school early with all the details you might need.

Make sure you have information about your module results as well as GCSE grades, your UCAS personal ID and clearing number too.

What do I do once I've got my grades?

First of all, log in to the UCAS Track system.

Tracking opens at 8am tomorrow. UCAS will only be able to speak to you about your results, unless you have previously nominated someone on your behalf.

You can view your application on Track and see how it is progressing.

If you get the grades you needed...

Congratulations! A message will appear in Track to say your place at uni has been confirmed.

You should receive details from the university or college about what to do next.

You'll also be able to view your confirmation letter in Track five to seven days after your place is confirmed.

If you've had a conditional firm offer that you exceeded with your grades, you might be able to upgrade to another course.

If you don't get the grades you needed...

Don't panic! You might get a place on either your firm or insurance choice.

You might be able to find another course in Clearing. Find out how that works here

If you can't see another course you want, consider other options.

Maybe this could be your chance to take a gap year, earn some money or start an apprenticeship.

You can always reapply next year, with a fresh outlook. But log on to UCAS and explore your options.

Top tips

  • If things don't go as you planned on results day, be prepared to think about other options.
  • In the grand scheme of things, results aren't the be all and end all. Explore other avenues and be open-minded.
  • Speak to your parents and school careers adviser, and have a look at UCAS
  • Take a look at Get In Go Far which offers plenty of exciting roles
  • If you've got your heart set on a degree, have a look at the Open University
  • Or if you just want to get away and make the most of a year out of education, plan a gap year here.

We will be live-blogging from schools and colleges tomorrow as students open their envelopes.

Good luck!
