A STORM could be on its way this evening which could lead to 30-40mm of rain in an hour and "frequent lightning".
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in some parts of the East of England, which is valid from 3pm to 11.50pm today.
Slow-moving thunderstorms could develop later today, and while some places could miss the bad weather, there is the risk of flash-flooding where it does occur.
The chief forecaster at the Met Office said: "Isolated thunderstorms may break out later this afternoon and through the evening.
"Some locations could see 30-40mm [of rain] in an hour, bringing the possibility of flash flooding, particularly in urban areas, and lightning could cause disruption to power supplies.
"The main risk period is during the late afternoon and evening."
